This international workshop is the third of a series of very successful and inspiring conferences that have been initiated originally by the Japanese LifeSurveyor Program, a network of research groups in Japan devoted to the topic of the conference and coordinated by Prof. Hideki Kambara, Professor at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and Director at Hitachi Central Research Laboratories. 

These conferences take place annually and sequentially in Japan and Europe, this year being hosted by the ETH Zurich. We will have 15 first class keynote/invited international speakers and expect about 150-200 participants from many different countries in Asia, Europe and the US.

The course is organised under the auspices of The European Federation of Biotechnology by the Working Group on Bioreactor Performance, in collaboration with other Working Groups (Working Group on Modelling, Monitoring, Measurement & Control and Working Group on Downstream Processing and Recovery of Bioproducts) of the EFB Section on Biochemical Engineering Science.

The course is directed specifically at Ph.D. students and experienced biotechnologists from research institutes, universities and industry. Participants are expected to have a background in chemical/biochemical engineering, biotechnology, a biological science or a related discipline. The lecturers are all acknowledged specialists in their fields, so that the course also provides a forum for highlighting recent research in relevant areas.
