October 09 - SBA visit to Spain
Swiss Biotech Association and ASEBIO organized the SBA to Spain. The first day started with introductory presentations by the officials (see attached program), followed by company presentations of the “new” participants not known to the group. After lunch the first session of one-to-one meetings were held. In total over 80 one-to-one meetings between Swiss and Spanish participants were held. The afternoon program was closed with a visit of the Swiss participants to the CNIO featuring a presentation as well as a tour through the chemical lab and the animal facilities. The invitation to the residence of the Swiss Ambassador gave all participants – Swiss and Spanish – an opportunity to follow up on networking and information exchange. The second day started with further one-to-one meeting sessions, followed by lunch and two more company visits: Bionostra and PharmaMar.see attached visit report and presentationsl
September 09
Asebio has also prepared a pdf documenting the pipeline of Spanish pharma and veterinary companies - see attachment (as per September 2009) and is looking forward to host the Swiss delegation on October 19 / 20 in Madrid (see attached program and company profiles).
January 09
First Swiss-Spanish Round Table on Biotech (January 2009, Muttenz) On both, the Spanish and the Swiss side, the meeting has found interest and all of the round-table participants valued the presented information as useful and informative. Feedbacks received so far are in favour of continuing Swiss Spanish contacts in order to define strategies and plans for the future bilateral cooperation. On January 27th a strategic follow-up meeting in Berne with Ministers Garmendia and Leuthard was held. The two Ministers and the Director of the Swiss Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology, Ursula Renold, concluded that an action plan describing the way to bilateral biotech cooperations should create a basis for bilateral developments. A first document/proposal should be prepared by Quarter 2, 2009.
The two presentations attached give an overview of the programs and action plan of Spain in Biotechnology.
