For the first time, Geneva will host the 25th European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB 2026), organized by the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, from 31 August to 4 September 2026. As Europe’s leading conference in computational biology and bioinformatics, ECCB 2026 will bring together over 1,200 international leaders from academia, healthcare, industry, and public institutions to explore the latest advances in genomics, structural bioinformatics, systems biology, biodiversity, and data-driven health.
Under the theme “Biodiversity, AI & Health: computational biology to address the challenges of our time”, ECCB 2026 will showcase how computational biology and artificial intelligence are shaping innovation, supporting biomedical research, and informing responses to major societal challenges at the intersection of health, environment, and technology.
The five-day programme will open on Monday 31 August with a high-level opening ceremony, including an address by Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, underscoring the strategic importance of computational biology at the national and European policy levels. The opening day will also feature a public lecture fostering dialogue between science, policy, and society. The main scientific conference will run from 31 August to 2 September, featuring keynote lectures, peer-reviewed proceedings, highlight talks, poster sessions, and an exhibition area.
ECCB 2026 will welcome Jeremy Farrar, Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization (WHO), as a keynote speaker, reinforcing the conference’s strong connection to global health policy, preparedness, and international decision-making.
Combining cutting-edge science, hands-on learning, industry engagement, and high-level policy discussions, ECCB 2026 positions Geneva as a central hub for European and global leadership in computational biology, AI, and health innovation.
