We are looking for a talented and experienced Lead Clean Utilities Engineer to join our Swiss team based in Basel with remote working flexibility. The Clean Utilities Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes and supporting utilities on a scale that can range from developmental pilot plant to full commercial production.

Your role:

  • Coordinates with project managers to determine project scope, complexity and schedule for project development.
  • Develops project execution plans (budget, milestones, deliverables and staffing plans) to deliver project on time, on budget and of the highest quality.
  • Assist client in strategic evaluations to develop concepts supported by engineering studies for expanding, improving or automating existing facilities.
  • Writes scope of work for process, utilities and manufacturing controls based on preliminary reviews with the client.
  • Complete design deliverables for single unit operations through entire facility flow including, Process Flow Diagrams, Material and Energy Balances, utility requirements and Process P&IDs that include controls strategy and CIP/SIP functions, if appropriate.
  • Complete design for utilities generation and distribution systems. Generate P&IDs for critical utility systems, such as WFI, USP Purified Water, Clean Steam and Process Gases.
  • Ensure completion of quality specifications and performance data sheets for process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Make use of and participate in development of company design tools including process simulation and smart P&IDs (AutoCAD, Plant 3D, SuperPro, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with clients and members of the IPS design team.
  • Estimate utility requirements for new manufacturing processes, design utilities generation and distribution systems.
  • Perform engineering studies for expanding, improving or automating existing facilities with limited supervision.
  • Produce specifications and performance data sheets for process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Assume ownership of the process-related aspects of a portion of a large project or an entire small project, and provide technical support to the design team.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with clients and members of the IPS design team.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Your profile:

  • Substantial clean utility design and operations experience in pharmaceutical facilities, which include biologic and organic synthesis Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and oral and parenteral Drug Products.
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or relevant Engineering.
  • Deep knowledge of system design, applicable codes and cGMP’s as they affect process design and equipment specification.
  • Demonstrated ability for analytical thinking, an aptitude for structured problem solving, superior verbal and written communication skills as well as a strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to build strong rapport within department and across IPS disciplines.
  • Proven previous experience independently designing CIP/SIP, purified water (PW) systems, water for injection (WFI) systems, clean steam (CS) systems, process vacuum systems, clean air systems (such as clean compressed air, N2, O2, CO2, etc.), bio-waste killing systems and/or Pharma & Biopharma waste water treatment systems.
  • AutoCAD for central utility drawing preparation is required.
  • REVIT or Smart P&ID is a plus.
  • Analytical thinking, an aptitude for structured problem solving as well as a strong work ethic.
  • Fluency in English, French and/or German
  • Willingness to travel to client site
